Foursquare: No longer an English-only app!

Oh Foursquare.  I don’t understand. I just don’t. Can someone please explain to me why people want to announce where they’ve checked in? (For those of you who aren’t familiar with Foursquare, it’s an app that allows its users to check in to various locations, or friends can check you in – and you can earn badges and virtual points or something).

Maybe I’m just old-school, but I kind of value my privacy.  I don’t want people knowing where I am, what I’m doing, what I’m eating, where I’m going, who I’m dating, etc. But clearly I’m an odd-ball.

So exciting news Foursquarers! Foursquare now comes in Español, Deutsch, Italiano, Français, & Japanese (one language I don’t speak). I can appreciate polylingual apps.

Struggling to find love? There’s an app for that.

(If you’re Indian).

This is a first. Now you can find a husband or wife via a BB mobile app! Of course for now, it seems as though Shaadi.com is the only dating matrimonial site doing this… I’m not really surprised, this is a pretty revolutionary idea.
It seems as though we’re making ourselves more and more awkward each passing day, when it comes to dating. Case point: “At one point we realised that users were not comfortable meeting people online and that’s how the whole idea came about” – some guy who works for Shaadi.com.
What? Soo…..  People are uncomfortable interacting behind computer screens & more comfortable with texting?  Can you imagine a guy sitting on his couch, alone in his apartment, phone in hand, texting “do you want kids?” “what is your favorite food?” “what are you doing?” (texting you, clearly).  Maybe these people aren’t ready to get married, there’s a thought.

Poynt

Poynt” (pronounced: point) opens to a home screen that asks, “where can we poynt you today?”
PS Don’t you like how everything is a little *cutesy* name nowadays? Like poynt, woot, buzzd, joomla, yola, google, twitter, yahoo, weeby; & then we wonder why p30p13  +@lK  lyyK3 +HiS.

I like this app, overall. The icons swirl in a circle to reveal the following options: Restaurants, Gas Prices, Events, Map It, Business, People & Movies.

Twitter, Top 25 BB App

Twitter

Twitter, Top 25 BB App #2

Does anyone remember the ghetto good ol’ days when Twitter/Tweetie/Twitterberry/Tweetdeck/TweedleDeeTweedleDum’s (alright I made the last one up) BB app was just a two-toned box with your friends’ tweets and you had to refresh the newsfeed for updates, or wait a realllly long time for your “@__” replies?:

Buzzd

Buzzd App

What is buzzd?  Well it’s supposed to be some sort of venue/”social”/city guide that helps you navigate the world around you.

The DL:
You have to let the app have access to your phone (it asks twice for two different things), which is to gather info about your whereabouts. So not necessarily the app for the privacy-prone.
I guess the *socialness* comes from the fact that you have to register for a screenname, and can upload a pic..

Truth be told, I’m not 100% what this app is. The website, buzzd.com looks pretty enough, but what is really going on?
Here’s what I’m guessing:
