RIM offers free PlayBook for app developers

RIM to solve App-less PlayBook using Android apps?

Well this news is by no means official, but those are the whisperings in the tech world.  Google’s Android, a mobile phone operating system, offers a software development kit for app developers specifically to be run on Android-based phones (says my super knowledgable source, Wikipedia).  Why Android? Well, I was alluding to this earlier, but RIM’s library of apps is pretty, well, pathetic in comparison to the rest of the smartphone world.  In fact, Android has 130,000 apps available to RIM’s 20,000.  Access to Android apps would “make the RIM platform attractive to consumers as it lacks the strength of the rivals from an apps perspective.”

Listen. If RIM does this, I’ll buy a damn PlayBook.. otherwise, I’m going to wait a year or so.  What’s the point of having a shiny new toy if you can’t even play with it?
