Foursquare: No longer an English-only app!

Oh Foursquare.  I don’t understand. I just don’t. Can someone please explain to me why people want to announce where they’ve checked in? (For those of you who aren’t familiar with Foursquare, it’s an app that allows its users to check in to various locations, or friends can check you in – and you can earn badges and virtual points or something).

Maybe I’m just old-school, but I kind of value my privacy.  I don’t want people knowing where I am, what I’m doing, what I’m eating, where I’m going, who I’m dating, etc. But clearly I’m an odd-ball.

So exciting news Foursquarers! Foursquare now comes in Español, Deutsch, Italiano, Français, & Japanese (one language I don’t speak). I can appreciate polylingual apps.

BB Chatting: Yahoo, BBM, Google Talk, AIM.

Before I start this review off, I have to say this – I hate chatting.
I’m not quite sure why. I am very social in real life, and then my internet personality is completely anti-social and creepy; it’s kind of backwards.  But, you know.

So let’s get this party started! All of these chit chat chatty tats come standard on your BB, so it’s not like you have a choice here.

BBM: A lot of people like bbm.  It’s free.  It makes BB users feel interconnected. It’s also awkward.  People know when you’ve read their messages, and they know when you’ve chosen to ignore them.  Has anyone else gotten into trouble for not responding quickly enough/at all? This one has.
It also gives your friends the impression that you’re 24/7 accessible. I’m pretty sure no one has ever bbm’d me to say anything meaningful, it’s mostly “hey” – let me give you a hypothetical conversation:
“hey”
– (I usually wait 5 minutes for further info, it never comes). “hey, what’s up?”
“nothing. you?”
– (ugh) (insert some excuse) “hey, i’m actually not doing a damn thing in class, can i talk to you later?”
End.

Poynt

Poynt” (pronounced: point) opens to a home screen that asks, “where can we poynt you today?”
PS Don’t you like how everything is a little *cutesy* name nowadays? Like poynt, woot, buzzd, joomla, yola, google, twitter, yahoo, weeby; & then we wonder why p30p13  +@lK  lyyK3 +HiS.

I like this app, overall. The icons swirl in a circle to reveal the following options: Restaurants, Gas Prices, Events, Map It, Business, People & Movies.

Twitter, Top 25 BB App

Twitter

Twitter, Top 25 BB App #2

Does anyone remember the ghetto good ol’ days when Twitter/Tweetie/Twitterberry/Tweetdeck/TweedleDeeTweedleDum’s (alright I made the last one up) BB app was just a two-toned box with your friends’ tweets and you had to refresh the newsfeed for updates, or wait a realllly long time for your “@__” replies?:

Yelp, Top 25 BB app

Yelp App

Yelp, Top 25 BB app #1

I LOVE Yelp.com. Yelp.com is my boy! I yelped a moving company earlier this morning (you know when a website is bomb ass when it becomes a verb).

Buzzd

Buzzd App

What is buzzd?  Well it’s supposed to be some sort of venue/”social”/city guide that helps you navigate the world around you.

The DL:
You have to let the app have access to your phone (it asks twice for two different things), which is to gather info about your whereabouts. So not necessarily the app for the privacy-prone.
I guess the *socialness* comes from the fact that you have to register for a screenname, and can upload a pic..

Truth be told, I’m not 100% what this app is. The website, buzzd.com looks pretty enough, but what is really going on?
Here’s what I’m guessing:
